Vermentino

MARGARET RIVER

Former South Aussies Nick and Sarah James-Martin are the team behind the recently established label Wines of Merritt. They made the move to Margaret River in 2015 and released their first wines under the Wines of Merritt label in 2017. The aim is for textural, food friendly wines and they’ve totally nailed it with the 2018 Vermentino. Single vineyard, small batch and made with minimal intervention, their range includes also includes a Cabernet Franc (the only other wine in their range I’ve tasted and I highly recommend it if you can manage to get your hands on some), a Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc - both of which I’m yet to try. I’ll be hunting out the current releases of those for sure!

The fruit was sourced from a sandy coastal vineyard in the Yallingup area (northern end of Margaret River region) Hand picked, native yeast ferment, no malo, no acid additions, no fining or filtration.

A little shy to start off but after a bit of swishing and swirling a lovely array of aromas unfurl. Green pear, lemon rind, oyster shells, pineapple.

The palate is medium bodied and textural. Bright and juicy acidity, good length. Lemon juice flavours up front and a tangy, briney finish. Super refreshing!
